Frozen A/C?

My a/c has frozen up at least 6 times just since friday, is this normal because of the extreme heat? (been over 100 here everyday) or is this a sign there is something wrong with it? We have just waited for it to thaw then turned it back on and it works fine, but does eventually freeze again over a bit of time.
