Computer freezes when trying to access video files?

When I try accessing the "My Video" files and sometimes the picture ones, etc., lately my computer has been coming with an error seconds after I click into the folder that basically says it kicked me out in order to protect my computer. What the heck is that? Then the whole computer freezes or everything will go blank and just the desktop images remains and then all the icons reappear. Any idea?
